Que.1: Who was Wu Daozi? Describe The wonderful onld tale of Wu Daozi.
Answer: Wu Daozi was a famous painter of ancient China. He lived in the 8th century. His last painting was a landscape. Once he was asked to make a landscape in the palace. The painter decorated a wall of palace. The emperor admired this wonderful painting. It included forests, mountains, waterfalls, clouds and the vast sky in it. The painter requested the emperor to look into the cave drawn in the landscape. “There lives a spirit,” the painter said. He clapped his hands. The cave opened. The inside was splendid. He entered the cave. The door of the cave closed behind him. The painting disappeared from the wall. The artist was never seen gain in this world.
Que.2: “The Emperor may rule over the territory he has conquered, but only the artists knows the way within.” Discuss it.
Answer: A story of Chinese art reveals that the emperor may rule over the conquered territory and understand the materialistic world but he cannot reach the inner would of the soul. Only the artist knows the way within.
The Emperor asked the artist to make a landscape to decorate the palace wall. When the painting was ready, the emperor came and admired the landscape, forests, mountains, waterfalls, birds and clouds etc. The painter was not happy. He clapped his hands. The cave in the painting opened. The painter entered the cave. The door of the cave closed behind him. And the painting vanished . The Emperor was stunned. Thus this story proves the above statement true.
